Everyone knows that championships are won through hard work and determination, but another component to achieving athletic success is a loyal fan base that supports the program on and off the court. The Fast Break Club serves that purpose for the OU women’s basketball program.
Founded at the beginning of the Sherri Coale era, by a hand full of loyal fans, the Fast Break Club has grown to a membership in excess of 500 individual and corporate members. Perhaps the most active booster club in all of OU sports programs, the Fast Break Club has become known for creating fun and excitement for fans throughout the year and especially during the season. The club sponsors bus trips to numerous away games, sells high quality sports apparel and merchandise with the Fast Break Club logo and hosts the club’s pregame gathering in the Clinton Lounge before each home game. In addition, the club has sponsored watch parties for away games featuring such perennial powers as Connecticut, Ohio State and Tennessee as well as the NCAA Selection Show and NCAA Tournament games. Watch parties are held in the Kerr McGee Courtside lounge and features buffet style meals catered by OU Food Service.
Other events include a late summer ice cream social welcoming the team members back to school as well as a chance to welcome new team members, the pre-season banquet held in the Lloyd Noble Center, Scrimmage/Pizza Party which includes an autograph session with all team members and coaches, Sherri Coale luncheons by invite only and the Sherri Coale Annual Golf outing in April.
While the Fast Break Club does sponsor numerous member related activities, without a doubt the most important aspect of the organization is its ability to give back to the student athletes and the women’s basketball program. In that regard, for several years the Fast Break Club has funded the team’s visits to such sites as Greece, Hawaii, New York City and will assist in funding their next scheduled trip to Australia. In addition the Fast Break Club has purchased flat screen TV’s for the women’s basketball offices and funded the framing of action photos. The club is also providing funds for several projects associated with enhancements to the Mary Jane Noble Women’s Basketball Center.
